uTenant welcomes Director of Business Development

Everyone, meet Kat!

Kat is a supply chain problem solver! Her passions are supply chain, economics, business and technology. She loves learning about her clients and their business and is driven by making the world a better place one challenge at a time.

Let's get to know Kat a bit more...

Kat, we're so excited to have you here! Tell us why you made the move to uTenant.

I have always been passionate about technology and supply chain solutions and property is a secret little hobby of mine. Since having children, topics like sustainability, equality and inclusion have become really important to me, which are all values uTenant lives by. If I had to make a list with boxes to tick, uTenant literally ticked all of them for me. I am super excited to join uTenant on its mission to become the world’s smartest warehousing solutions provider, driven by technology.

You've worked in Supply Chain for nearly 20 years, what do you find exciting about this industry?

Where do I start? Firstly, my mum and grandmother were both engineers. I grew up around trucks, diggers and pavers when I worked in my mum’s road construction business during the summer holidays. After being born in the GDR (and not being allowed to leave the country), my family travelled extensively within Europe once the Wall came down. I always loved learning about other cultures and have been to nearly 50 countries. Supply Chain is international. It is never-ever boring. Everything happening in the world can have an impact on freight, oil prices, warehouses, consumer behaviour etc. This has never been more apparent than in the last 18 months.

You're from Germany originally? What made you choose Australia to build your career?

Funny story. In 2003 when I interviewed Hellmann’s IT team for my Bachelor Thesis, they mentioned I should speak to this guy David in Australia. Apparently, he is a real ‘genius’ and always implements the latest tech (of course I didn’t, I had more than enough material). Turns out years later we actually met in Hong Kong. What started off as a great friendship eventually turned into more.

What do you like to do outside of work for fun?

My family and friends are really my fun outside of work, and I am loving it. I recently took my boys skiing and ice skating. We go to museums, hike with friends, the kids ride scooters and bikes and I ride with them! My eldest is a Melbourne Victory supporter so we have been going to soccer games (prior to Covid! I love running, it helps me to switch off and when my schedule allows, I go down to the gym for some Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

You’ve had some amazing experiences! What has been your biggest challenge or life lesson so far?

4 months of lockdown, homeschooling 3 kids while working full time has certainly been my most recent challenge. My biggest challenge has been the Oxfam trail-walker in Hong Kong. I started training a bit late as I was travelling. Walking and running 100km in 24 hours up and down mountains took quite a bit out of me physically and mentally. The good news is, once we made it to the finish line, it gave me the strength to overcome all future challenges. It also taught me; you can achieve just about anything with the right people around you.

Welcome Kat! We look forward to working with you.
